What is Biblical Counseling?
Life is full of things to be discouraged about, and it can be overwhelming. We believe that Jesus offers real help, hope, and healing in the difficulties of life. There is hope!
Jesus promised that this life would be full of tribulation, but that His peace is available (John 16:33). Galatians 6:2 encourages Christians to “bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Biblical counseling is a caring person coming alongside another to help one another in our discouragements and difficulties by applying the help, hope, and healing God gives us in Scripture. Sometimes we need someone trustworthy to lovingly listen and point us in the direction of truth and hope. That’s Biblical counseling.
King’s Cross Church offers biblical counseling as a way of coming alongside people with the comfort and wisdom of Scripture, no matter what they’re facing. We believe that the power of God’s Word and Spirit offers hope of life change from the inside out. While we believe God can work through various methods of counseling, our counselors are certified or in the process of certification through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). We also have pastors and other counselors who have received training from Faith Biblical Counseling Ministries, that are able and willing to counsel according to the Scriptures.
What can I expect?
Expect to be counseled from the Word of God. Because God created us and knows best how to care for our souls, He is the foremost expert in the study of psychology. The Bible is His guide for soul care and the source of authority in biblical counseling. Sessions typically last about an hour. Plan to bring a Bible and a notebook for all sessions as you will have actions steps to complete.
Expect to be counseled by a fellow brother or sister in Christ. If you are thinking of professional counseling with a licensed therapist, the answer is “no.” If you are thinking of a season of Biblically directed discipleship aimed at particular life problems, the answer is “yes.”
What is the cost?
We offer biblical counseling free of charge. Our counseling ministry is a service to the church as well as the community. No one will be turned away because they can or cannot pay.
A freewill offering is always welcome, but it is certainly not required or requested. Those who benefit from our counseling ministry and want to give are encouraged to do so. All donations will go to the ministry of King’s Cross Church, which includes training in biblical counseling.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching,
for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the
man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
1 Timothy 3:16-17
