One of KCC’s core identities is that we are servants. Jesus came not to be served but to serve (Mark 10:45), so we display His love to one another and our neighbors through serving. This happens primarily in the context of the local church, but this also extends to serving outside the four walls of the church building and Sunday mornings. We believe that the church doesn’t just exist in Defiance but worldwide. We’re called not only to serve one another but also to serve the world, those next door and those abroad. Toward the end of July, a group of KCC youth and leaders will be serving the local church in Patillas, Puerto Rico for one week through an organization called Praying Pelican Missions (PPM).

PPM’s mission is to build up, encourage, and assist the local Church in serving and reaching their communities for Christ. They seek to establish genuine partnerships between churches local and abroad through short-term missions, church sponsorships, and disaster response.

One unique element about PPM is that all of their ministry is done through and under the authority of the local church. We have been connected with Pastor Oscar of Iglesia Metodista Puerta del Cielo “Methodist Church – Door of Heaven.” One of the major tasks the youth group will be doing is helping build a church building. KCC was buildingless for nearly 10 years, so we know what it’s like to be limited by a meeting space. Though we were still able to meet for worship and make disciples, having a physical location has its perks as well. Lord willing, the congregation will be able to utilize a newly constructed church building to continue reaching their communities for Christ.
