The Value of Broader Expressions of Christian Unity
KCC is joining a prayer gathering called Defiance United on January 31, 2021 at 6:30pm. This is something Defiance churches have done in the past, and we are coming back to it in 2021. We encourage our church to come out to pray for our nation, state, town, and the mission of the gospel, alongside other evangelical churches in Defiance. There will be worship music, various pastors praying up front, and prayer in small groups and alone. Defiance United will be hosted at Xperience Church (1500 N Clinton St Suite 3, Defiance, OH 43512).
There is value in broader expressions of Christian unity. Prayer is something that we can certainly do with other evangelical churches in our town. A group of Defiance pastors gather weekly on Thursday morning to pray for one another, and for our town. I am a regular at these prayer gatherings. I walk away from these prayer times so encouraged by the prayers and the hearts of these brother-pastors. It is sometimes apparent that we don’t agree on everything when it comes to theological or cultural matters, but when we are praying together for God’s kingdom to come and God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven, those differences fade away. There is a genuine love and affection that we have for one another as brothers in Christ and as pastors engaged in shepherding God’s people in Defiance.
Be prepared for a worship music style that will be different from what you’re used to at KCC. But more than that, be prepared to love other Christians as the Lord would have us love. I also think of the generosity that Xperience Church demonstrated toward our church in giving us over $12,000-worth of equipment for having services that YMCA. That is radical love that extends beyond one church.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 13:34
