It’s no secret that our society has been divided over various events in the past year or two. Sadly, this has also carried over into the church. In these times it seems like our gut reaction is to run away rather than run towards one another. In last Sunday’s sermon, Sam encouraged us to run towards one another by being the body of Christ to one another through serving. We have all been united under one Spirit and have been given spiritual gifts in order to serve and uplift one another. Easier said than done! But the church is a body and needs to function as such. So if you are a Christian and not really doing much to serve one another, one practical way to get started is not necessarily to take a Spiritual Gifts Inventory but rather get to serving where there is a need. We have put together a list of service opportunities in the church and in the community to help you start serving. Send us an message if you would like more information about serving.

21 Days of Fasting

Our church is embarking on 21 Days of Fasting, January 10 through 31 culminating in a prayer gathering with other evangelical churches in Defiance, called, Defiance United Prayer. Defiance United Prayer will be hosted at Xperience Church (1500 N Clinton St Suite 3, Defiance, OH 43512) at 6:30pm. Sam wrote a blog post about the importance of fasting as well as included resources on the subject. It’s not too late to get started.

Update from Pastor Sheika in Mongolia

Pastor Sheika is a church planter that KCC supports from Mongolia. Despite the intense lockdown in Mongolia due to COVID-19, Pastor Sheika has still been able to travel around the country and share the gospel. Remember to pray for Sheika and his family as well as his ministry, Witness Mongolia, as they sow seeds of the gospel in difficult ground. You can also learn about some of Pastor Sheika’s work from the article “Closed Borders, Open Doors” by Elliot Clark.

THEOLOGY FOR BREAKFAST

We are starting another round of Theology For Breakfast beginning February 2nd. We will meet every other Tuesday for 12 weeks (so 6 meetings total) at 6:30am on Zoom. Theology For Breakfast is a class open to men and women who want to know God more deeply. it will be a combination of lecture and discussion class based on the weekly work that people will do (yes, there will be homework).

The primary text is the Bible itself, though there is a workbook (which we will print off and supply) as well as supplemental reading from Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology. Some of the topics we will cover this Spring will be what the Bible teaches on angels and demons, creation/evolution, the image of God, sin and fallen humanity (“total depravity”), the person of Christ, the resurrection, and the atonement (including its various theories, limited vs. unlimited, and the extent).

If mornings are not good for you, please let us know. We are willing to do an evening class if there is enough people interested. So let us know by clicking the button below.

FIGHTER VERSES SCRIPTURE MEMORY

One of the best ways to combat the devil in spiritual war is through wielding the Sword of the Spirit, aka the Bible. We as a church are encouraging everyone to memorize Scripture. Many people don’t memorize Scripture not because they can’t but because they don’t have a plan to do it. Fighter Verses is a 5-year Scripture memorization plan that equips you with core biblical truths to fight the good fight of faith. So join the fight by memorizing Scripture together!

CHRISTMAS GENEROSITY

This Christmas season has been a generous one. Throughout the month of December, we have been encouraging over and above generosity to be directed toward hunger alleviation for our brothers and sisters in Malawi through the Pastoral Training Institute of Africa (PTIA). We also took up an offering for the CPC Women’s Health Resource to help give hope to women facing unwanted or unplanned pregnancies. Here are the totals from both offerings:
