Happy New Year! 2020 was a crazy year and 2021 is here whether we like it or not. But the good news is that God is still on His throne. Though we may be uncertain as to what this new year will bring, God is good and knows what He is doing. In the meantime, let’s strive to be faithful to what God has already revealed to us in His Word rather than wondering about what His secret plan is 2021. God has revealed Himself to us in His Word, and that’s a great place to start. Whatever you plan to do in 2021, let’s make God’s Word central. Let’s read, study, memorize, and apply His Word. There are some great ways to do that below.

Whether we are discipled by our surrounding culture or discipled to by Christ Himself depends on what we put into our minds and hearts.  We form our habits, and our habits form us.  A new year is a good time to recommit to regular fellowship with the Lord in Word and Prayer.  The KCC pastors recommend one of these Bible reading plans. If you have another one, that’s great.  If you don’t want to follow a plan, that’s fine.  The goal is to fellowship with Christ daily, not to finish your Bible reading plan.  Whatever you do, don’t let the world shape you into its mold (Romans 12:1-2), but rather be shaped by God through Scripture reading and prayer in 2021. All three of these plans will be available at the Welcome Table on Sundays.

The Read Scripture reading plan takes you through the whole Bible semi-chronologically throughout the entire year. What is unique about this plan is that it has an app and includes short overview videos to help you get a basic grasp of the book you are reading. Download the Read Scripture app, or print the PDF.

The Discipleship Journal Bible Reading plan takes you through the whole Bible in a year, reading from four different genres of scripture each day.  It is a classic, time-tested Scripture reading plan with the benefit that there are only five scheduled readings a week so there’s less likelihood of falling behind.  You can follow this plan on the YouVersion Bible app, or print the pdf here.

F260 is a partial Bible reading plan where you will read 1-2 chapters a day for 5 days a week and have 2 days to catch up. Through the course of a year, you will read semi-chronologically through major chapters of the Bible. Follow this plan on YouVersion Bible app, or download the pdf here.

One of the best ways to combat the devil in spiritual war is through wielding the Sword of the Spirit, aka the Bible. We as a church are encouraging everyone to memorize Scripture. Many people don’t memorize Scripture not because they can’t but because they don’t have a plan to do it. Fighter Verses is a 5-year Scripture memorization plan that equips you with core biblical truths to fight the good fight of faith. So join the fight by memorizing Scripture together!

This Christmas season has been a generous one. Throughout the month of December, we have been encouraging over and above generosity to be directed toward hunger alleviation for our brothers and sisters in Malawi through the Pastoral Training Institute of Africa (PTIA). We also took up an offering for the CPC Women’s Health Resource to help give hope to women facing unwanted or unplanned pregnancies. Here are the totals from both offerings:

COVID-19 – Please pray for those who either currently have, recently had, or are recovering from COVID-19.  The entire Andres family (adults) are recovering from COVID-19 and Jayne just recently tested positive. Chrissy Payton also has COVID-19.

Lihn Pham – This is the wife of Victor Pham, our Commons neighbor and VIP Nails owner. On Christmas evening she had a double brain aneurysm. She has had multiple surgeries and is still in a coma. Pray that the Lord will wake her up from the coma, restore her to complete health, and strengthen Victor’s faith and reliance on Jesus.

Sick/Surgery – Dean Andres, Rex Wreede, Marilyn Smith, Maya Hogan, Claire McMaster, Mary Hoffman, and Eron Mosier have all recently gone through surgery and are in the process for recovery for surgery or sickness. Please pray for continued healing and strength.

Linda Verhoff – Pray for Linda as she recovers from a sprained ankle.

Grieving – Please also keep in mind those who recently lost loved one, especially during the holiday season: Tim and Marie Cantu (Marie’s mother, Tim’s father), Jessica Schoenhals (mother), Craig Spotts (mother), Bert Shiarla (father), Angie Tovar (mother)

Shackow family – Joey has COVID-19 and is having a hard time recovering.

Lina Avila (girlfriend of Tim and Marie Cantu’s son) – having preventative surgery for cancer in January.
