Heaven, a World of Love

By Jonathan Edwards

Sam read this portion of one of Jonathan Edwards’ writings during the sermon on Sunday:

There, in heaven, this infinite fountain of love — this eternal Three in One — is set open without any obstacle to hinder access to it, as it flows forever. There this glorious God is manifested, and shines forth, in full glory, in beams of love.

And there this glorious fountain forever flows forth in streams, yea, in rivers of love and delight, and these rivers swell, as it were, to an ocean of love, in which the souls of the ransomed may bathe with the sweetest enjoyment, and their hearts, as it were, be deluged with love!

And oh! what joy will there be, springing up in the hearts of the saints, after they have passed through their wearisome pilgrimage, to be brought to such a paradise as this! Here is joy unspeakable indeed, and full of glory — joy that is humble, holy, enrapturing, and divine in its perfection! Love is always a sweet principle; and especially divine love.

This, even on earth, is a spring of sweetness; but in heaven it shall become a stream, a river, an ocean! All shall stand about the God of glory, who is the great fountain of love, opening, as it were, their very souls to be filled with those effusions of love that are poured forth from his fullness, just as the flowers on the earth, in the bright and joyous days of spring, open their bosoms to the sun, to be filled with his light and warmth, and to flourish in beauty and fragrancy under his cheering rays.

The 30-Day Kindness Challenge

So what is the 30-Day Kindness Challenge?

The 30-Day Kindness Challenge is a much-needed movement of kindness led by many influential organizations. 89% of relationships improve if you pick a person with whom you want a better relationship; then for 30 days:

  1. Say nothing negative about that person – either to them or about them to anyone else.
  2. Each day find one positive thing you can praise or affirm about that person and tell them and tell someone else.
  3. Each day, do one small act of kindness or generosity for them.
Weekly Fighter Verse

Psalm 32:8 [9]
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. [Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.]

Weekly New City Catechism

Question 36: What do we believe about the Holy Spirit?

Answer*: That he is God, coeternal with the Father and the Son, and that God grants him irrevocably to all who believe.

Next Sunday's Sermon Text

1 Corinthians 14:1-12

Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.

Now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will anyone know what is played? And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? So with yourselves, if with your tongue you utter speech that is not intelligible, how will anyone know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air. There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning, but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church.

We are reviving a weekly prayer meeting at 9:00am in the Prayer Room/Mother’s Lounge. Everyone is invited to come seek the Lord together and pray for gospel renewal in our church, our community and around the world. Let’s outgrow this room in our devotion to prayer as a church.

“We need a work of the Holy Ghost of a supernatural kind, putting power into the preaching of the Word, inspiring all believers with heavenly energy, and solemnly affecting the hearts of the careless so that they may turn to God and live.” -C. H. Spurgeon, Only a Prayer Meeting.

KCC Loop Newsletter Prayer

We Would Love to Pray for You

Some people think that only major crises of life are worth praying for, but the truth is that everyone needs prayer for something. James 4:2 says that we do not have because we do not ask, and when we do we often have false or impure motives. So the first step is to ask. So please come and let us pray for you in person at our Sunday worship gathering. Or, if you would like prayer now, just click the button below and fill out the form and we will pray for you.
