Can Christians Still Prophesy Today?
Prophecy. What is it? Can Christians still prophesy today? If so, what does that look like?
Historically, this is a controversial topic in the church. You may ask, “What sane pastor would introduce yet another controversial topic in the midst of so much controversy already around masks and politics?” Clearly, I am asking myself the same question. This is a topic our church elders have hashed out together and not come to full agreement on regarding the minor details. Yet, we love and respect one another and have unity in the central truths of the gospel.

Question 37: How does the Holy Spirit help us?
Answer*: The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin, comforts us, guides us, gives us spiritual gifts and the desire to obey God; and he enables us to pray and to understand God’s Word.
*Children’s answer is the bold text
Next Sunday's Sermon Text
Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider say “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up. I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.
Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.” Thus tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers, while prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers but for believers. If, therefore, the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and outsiders or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are out of your minds? But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or outsider enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all, the secrets of his heart are disclosed, and so, falling on his face, he will worship God and declare that God is really among you.

Ravens Care
Check Out Their New Website
Ravens Care is a cooperative care ministry of the Defiance County churches, serving to assist people in emergency need situations in the county.
In 1993, three area pastors realized a need in the community to fill gaps of emergency assistance in which families in crisis were faced. Government programs were focused on general assistance and unable to see clients for everyday needs. The pastors gathered several other churches in the community and devised guidelines and regulations to assist these individuals and families.
We Would Love to Pray for You
Some people think that only major crises of life are worth praying for, but the truth is that everyone needs prayer for something. James 4:2 says that we do not have because we do not ask, and when we do we often have false or impure motives. So the first step is to ask. So please come and let us pray for you in person at our Sunday worship gathering. Or, if you would like prayer now, just click the button below and fill out the form and we will pray for you.
